“The children were absolutely ecstatic,” said Craig Cunningham who represented The USS Foundation at the event. “The 88 kids who received bikes from us last December were present, and they were so happy to see 12 of their friends get bikes too.” Craig shared with kids the story of Adel Sayegh, the founder of the USS Foundation, who grew up in poverty sharing a one bedroom apartment with his parents and 12 siblings. “This story,” said Cunningham, “resonated with the children since it showed them that no matter how hard their lives seem now, if they work hard and don’t give up they too can rise to the top.”
The school’s principal, Dr. Derrick Hibler called each child by name to come to the stage and receive the bicycle. He reinforced the message that good things happen to those who apply themselves, who strive to succeed and who have a don’t-give-up attitude. Dr. Hibler also thanked the USS foundation for doing something wonderful for the children and showing them that there are those who care about them.
Our organization is thrilled every time we can bring a little bit of happiness to children who live in tough circumstances. We hope these wonderful students, who’ve worked hard in school, will enjoy their new bicycles, and will continue to strive to reach for
