Sadness filled the hearts of KEC Canal Point Elementary students as the holiday season approached because they knew financial issues would make their celebrations very meager at best. Living in a rural area plagued by on-going economic turmoil in Canal Point, FL, KEC students expected nothing under their trees at Christmas.
After the USS Foundation chose KEC Canal Point to participate as a semi-finalist in our Adopt-a-Bike program, their small-town status did not stop them from generating tons of support. Their heavy participation on our Facebook page caught our attention with pleas for the USS Foundation to visit their school. KEC Canal Point generated enough support on our Facebook page to propel them as a finalist for Adopt-a-Bike. In December, with Santa Claus at our event, the Foundation donated 88 bicycles to hardworking KEC Canal Point students, along with extra bikes for the principal to give additional outstanding students at the school year's end. Donors who helped make the event possible were Tina and Daisy Park and 2 Men and a Truck of Riviera Beach, FL. The joy on the kids’ faces at our Adopt-a-Bike assembly showed their genuine gratitude for this special holiday surprise. The holiday season turned into a very unexpected happy occasion for these Canal Point families.
